On the heals of a successful cruise-in and swap-meet in the spring, Chasing SS Cars is planning another event in Mount Airy.

The event will take place at Veterans Memorial Park on July 22, 23 and 24.

“Of course, April was our first event in Mount Airy,” said event organizer Erik Herdman. “It went over really well, and the vendors were really happy. Most are returning.”

Herdman has been organizing the Floyd Auto Fair in Floyd, Virginia, for multiple years, but he said Mount Airy is proving to be another top-notch location for a car-related event.

“Mount Airy is one of the nicest towns I’ve ever been to,” remarked Herdman. “There’s a great bunch of car people there, too.”

Herdman explained the event is twofold. On July 22 a swap meet will begin. About 200 vendors are expected at the swap meet, and everything from transmissions to memorabilia will be available for trade or purchase. The gates will open at 8 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

Admission to the event is $5 per person, though children ages 12-years-old and younger may enter for free.

On July 23 gates also open at 8 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. However, Herdman said a cruise-in will run concurrent to the swap meet, beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m.

Herdman said the spring cruise-in drew attention from many local classic car owners and enthusiasts, and they weren’t disappointed.

“At the last one there was a Rolls-Royce for sale and a DeLorean,” remarked Herdman. “That’s stuff you don’t see just anywhere.”

Herdman is also putting his own touch on the cruise-in portion of the event. He said he has fashioned piston head trophies which have been a hit at other events for the top showing cars.

On July 24 the event will wrap up with the final day of the swap-meet.

Herdman made it a point to note the Chasing SS Cars cruise-in and swap meet has a long future ahead of it at the Mount Airy location.

“We’ll be back in April too, and hopefully for years to come,” said Herdman.

Vendor spaces for the event are $25 per space. Herdman may be reached at (540) 789-7898 for further information.
