WINSTON-SALEM — A Pinnacle woman is accused of embezzling nearly $300,000 from the Rural Hall funeral home where she worked, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday.

According to a statement released by the agency, investigators responded to the Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home at 305 Bethania-Rural Hall Road in March following a report of embezzlement.

The suspect, Teresa Ashley Marion, 57, of Shoals Road, was arrested Sept. 30 and later released from the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.

She faces charges of accessing a computer to defraud or obtain property, a class F felony, and embezzlement by an employee.

“The total amount embezzled was $278,666.51,” stated Major Danny Carter of Forsyth County.

“They believe it was going on for a while,” Carter said.

Scott Morris, manager of the Rural Hall location of the Winston-Salem based funeral home, declined to comment, but indicated that Marion was no longer employed at the business.

“We thank the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office for what they’ve done to help us with this matter,” Morris said.

Marion is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 8.
