WINSTON-SALEM — A Dobson man is dead after being struck by a car Tuesday evening.

Winston-Salem Police Lt. R.K. Peterson confirmed media reports that Stephen Brent Justice II, 33, of Dobson was struck by a car and killed on I-40 Business in Winston-Salem on Tuesday at about 7:30 p.m.

According to Peterson, the collision occurred in the northbound lanes just west of the Silas Creek Parkway exit.

“We have no idea why he was in the roadway,” said Peterson, noting Justice was wearing “semi-dark” clothing when the incident occurred.

Justice was pronounced dead at the scene, added Peterson.

Other media outlets reported Justice was struck by a vehicle operated by Steve Luffman, 60, of Winston-Salem. Luffman was unable to avoid the collision.

Peterson added Luffman was operating a pick-up truck. No charges are pending against Luffman, but the incident is still under investigation.

He did note, however, there seems to be no evidence pointing to any criminal act on the part of Luffman.

“I think it is probably a matter of pedestrian error,” concluded Peterson.
