To local residents who turned out for Gov. Pat McCrory’s visit to Mount Airy this week. Many of the governor’s local supporters were on hand for the event, as were several who oppose his policies. No one, however — even those openly protesting several of his policies — gave the governor any reason to not want to return to Mount Airy, and that’s a testament to the people of this community.
To the many area agencies and individuals who have supported The Shepherd’s House, not only during a recent fundraiser held in Dobson, but over the past year. At this time in 2012 the county’s only homeless shelter was on shaky footing, having announced just a few weeks earlier it may close. The United Fund of Surry County, along with a number of local businesses and organizations, came forward with donations and fundraising opportunities and now, not only is the shelter still open, it is on solid footing, according to Executive Director Phil Goble Jr.
