DOBSON — The Lady Eagles tennis team wrapped up a perfect conference season with a 6-3 win over North Surry Thursday.
Surry Central, tied for ninth in the 2A coaches poll this week, won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles in the season finale.
The teams will take part in the Western Piedmont Conference Tournament Tuesday and Wednesday at North Surry.
The Eagles won the first matchup 8-1, but the Hounds fared better this time.
“I hate that this is the end of the regular season because I feel like we are just getting started,” said North Coach Maggie McKee.
Seniors Kennedy Dockery, Mikayla Cox and Cassie Hoge all won their singles matches in straight sets in their final home date.
Dockery beat Abby Lawson 6-2, 6-4, Cox topped Hannah Southern 6-1, 6-0 and Hoge won 6-2, 6-3 over Taylor Tickle.
Olivia Fowler gave the Eagles four wins with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win over Bailey Atkins that had both coaches bragging on their determination.
North Surry got its two wins on Courts One and Three.
Sarah Glasco edged Marlee Wilmoth 7-4, 6-4 after needing three sets to win last time.
Rebecca Parsons came from a set down to defeat Sommer Chilton.
Chilton won 6-1 in the first set after taking the last match 6-3, 6-1. However, Parsons came back to take the second set 6-4 and the third set 10-5.
“I was so proud of Rebecca,” said McKee. “She has just worked and worked all season long.”
In doubles play, Wilmoth and Chilton won 8-2 over Parsons and Southern.
Dockery and Cox won 8-4 over Glasco and Atkins.
Senior Abbie Norman played doubles with Hoge on Court Three. North’s Lawson and Tickle won 8-2.
