To the Editor,

I want you to know, you and the residents of Mount Airy, how nice, special and memorable our trip was visiting your town during Mayberry Days. This was our first visit. We arrived, Wednesday night at the Hampton Inn and the staff at the desk were very nice and accommodating. Thursday morning, we began our tour of Mount Airy. We really enjoyed seeing Andy Griffith’s home, museum and playhouse. The museum is very nice and we learned a lot about Andy and the show and the staff was very friendly. The director of the playhouse gave us a tour and background information about it and Andy. He was very outgoing and informative. I apologize for not remembering his name. After all of this, we walked up and down Main Street visiting your stores.

We really enjoyed the slow pace of life of your town and the friendliness of the local citizens and store-restaurant owners. No matter how busy they were, they took time to talk to us about their store-restaurant and their town.

The dinner at the country club was very nice. We so enjoyed spending time with their staff, the look alike characters and actors/actresses from the show. What a thrill for us, especially me, a long-time Andy Griffith fan! The Andy Griffith Show is one of my favorite shows to watch, so to experience a night like this was a thrill! Everyone, staff, look-alikes, actors were all patient with autographs and nice. We enjoyed Karen Knotts and learning more about Don Knotts and the parade — which I think, can be longer!

Being in Mount Airy was very refreshing. In this age of fast-pace, work til you drop and often rudeness, it was so nice to be among people who had the time to be nice, friendly, patient, kind and genuine! You don’t often find these qualities much any more. I enjoyed myself so much I was ready and am ready to move there. You all are very, blessed!

So, to you the Council, citizens of the town, I want to thank you! We will be back next year, if not before, to visit. I’m sorry, I can’t remember all the names but here are a few stops we took and enjoyed — Mayberry on Main, Opie Candy Store, The Country Store, John Deer Store, Barney’s Café, Snappy’s and Sage Brush.

God Bless, all of you and your town of Mount Airy!
