Sheriff Graham Atkinson was recently named the 2016 Good Scout Awardee by the Old Hickory Council, Boy Scouts of America.


The Dogwood District of the Boy Scouts of America, Old Hickory Council recently held its Good Scout Award breakfast.

Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson received the Good Scout 2016 Award. Atkinson was selected for exemplifying the values of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law through his “good turns” to the community.

Accomplishments of the council during the last year include:

• 147 Scouts earning Eagle Scout rank last year

• 33,123 service hours improving the community

• 64,546 pounds of food collected in the Scouting for Food campaign supporting the local food band.

The breakfast also began the 2016 Friends of Scouting fundraising campaign.
