County board recognizes Special Olympics

Surry County Board of County Commissioners handed out three Certificates of Recognition on June 6.

2016 Volunteer of the Year

Tanya Davis, Special Olympics Surry County 2016 Volunteer of the Year was presented a Certificate of Recognition on for participating in Special Olympics Surry County, serving as a volunteer committee member for ten years with Special Olympics. As a volunteer for Special Olympics she rallied Surry Central High School to raise more than $7,000 to help support the 2016 Spring Games. She has been a permanent face of Spring Games annually, running the lunch station and feeding the athletes. She is willing to help in any way necessary for the advancement of Special Olympics athletes and their athletic programs.

2016 “Unsung Hero”

Junior Inman, Special Olympics Surry County 2016 “Unsung Hero” was presented a Certificate of Recognition for participating in Special Olympics Surry County serving as a backbone, showing up at every event/fundraiser with his tool belt on and making every event happen. Serving as a volunteer, he builds everything Special Olympics Surry County needs with no cost to the program. He goes above and beyond for all Special Olympics Fundraising events and the special people of Surry County. He is willing to help in anyway necessary for the advancement of Special Olympics athletes and their athletic programs therefore earning the title of Special Olympics Surry County “2016 Unsung Hero.”

2016 Athlete of the Year

Jarred Watts, Special Olympics Surry County 2016 Athlete of the Year was presented a Certificate of Recognition for being a leader and a role model among athletes for four years, attending fundraisers to help raise money and working at events. Earning the title of Athlete of the Month for January, 2016 by Special Olympics North Carolina and being named Special Olympics Surry County 2016 Athlete of the Year.
