Mount Airy saw a two-goal lead slip away in a 4-4 tie against Thomasville on Thursday night at Shelton Stadium.
The Bears (2-0-2) had a 3-1 lead at halftime on two goals from Christian Cabrera and another from Robert Brown. In the second half, Cabrera was fouled and got hurt on the play. Hunter Clawson scored off a free kick.
Mount Airy later committed a foul in the box and Thomasville scored on a penalty kick. The Bulldogs got the tying goal with about six minutes left.
Coach Will Hurley of Mount Airy said the loss to Cabrera was huge. He had ice on his ankle on the sideline and was taken to get X-rays after the game.
“He’s our go-to-guy right now,” Hurley said. “It just deflated the entire team.”
John Hardy finished with two assists for the Bears and Luke Needham had an assist.
Mount Airy travels to Thomasville (2-3) for a nonconference match on Tuesday.
