• A Mount Airy man who allegedly threatened repeatedly to kill a policeman was arrested Sunday on charges of communicating threats and second-degree trespassing, according to city police department reports. Officers encountered Christopher Aaron Orange, 42, of 278 Skyview Lane, when answering a suspicious-person call at Circle K on North Main Street, which led to him being banned from the premises and advised to leave.

Orange’s 1996 Dodge Dakota pickup was left at the convenience store due to bearing a fictitious tag, but police saw him return a few minutes later. He was arrested for trespassing, and also charged with communicating threats against Officer J.W. Watson. Orange was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $6,000 secured bond and is to be in District Court on Aug. 19.

• A case of obtaining property by false pretense was reported Sunday. It involves a person recently buying $60 worth of fuel at Circle K on U.S. 601 for his personal vehicle, under the premise that he was employed by victim Richard Aaron Niten of Adventure Trail and the purchase was work-related. The case was still under investigation at last report.

• Raul Enrique Araujo, 17, of 486 Chandler Road, was cited for larceny Sunday, stemming from the theft of a Magic Bullet product at Walmart. Drug paraphernalia also was located during a search of the youth, police records show, leading to his being cited for possession of it, with an Aug. 8 Surry District Court date set.

• David Lee Thomas, 26, of 109 Guinness Lane, is facing a driving while impaired violation that was filed early Sunday after a motor vehicle accident on U.S. 52 near the N.C. 89 intersection. Thomas is free on a written promise to appear in District Court on Aug. 21.

• A break-in Friday at the residence of Ted Clinton Turman in the 1000 block of North Main Street resulted in the theft of an undisclosed sum of cash and a pack of Marlboro cigarettes. Entry was gained through an unsecured door.

• Michael Ray Norman, 42, of 504 Merritt St.-B, was arrested on a second-degree trespassing violation Friday night at WilcoHess on Rockford Street. Norman was banned from the store after allegedly causing a problem there, but is said to have returned about two hours later to use a pay telephone. Norman was confined in the county jail under a $300 secured bond and had an Aug. 19 court date set.

• Police were told on July 9 that an unknown suspect had passed a stolen check for $560 at an unidentified business in Forrest Oaks Shopping Center on Rockford Street. The victim of the crime, involving the uttering of a forged instrument and obtaining property by false pretense, is Terry Bowers of Meadowlark Road in Galax, Va.
