Arrests

The Surry County Sheriff’s Office has reported the following arrests:


• On Aug. 16, Matthew Fletcher Joyce, 25, of Red Brush Road in Mount Airy, was arrested and charged with the larceny of a firearm, injury to personal property and the larceny of a motor vehicle. He was booked into the Surry County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond.


• On Aug. 18, Michael Chad Shaw, 42, of Hadley Street in Mount Airy, was arrested and charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury. He was booked into the Surry County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond.


• On Aug. 19, Tyler Joy Smith, 27, of Burton Street in Mount Airy, was arrested and charged with one count of felony larceny and one count of misdemeanor larceny. He was released from the Surry County Jail on a written promise to appear in court.


• On Aug. 20, Benny Lee Ward Jr., 41, of Bridge Street in Elkin, was arrested on a governor’s warrant out of New Jersey. He is being held in the Surry County Jail without benefit of bond.


• On Aug. 20, Coren Dean Jarrell, 20, of Dynasty Lane in Mount Airy, was arrested and charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. He was booked into the Surry County Jail under a $10,000 unsecured bond.


Incidents

The following incidents are under investigation by the Surry County Sheriff’s Office:


• On Aug. 16, Crystal Joyce Potts, 44, of Red Brush Road in Mount Airy, reported that someone shot the back window out of her Ford Explorer. The damaged was estimated to be valued at $500.


• On Aug. 16, Fletcher Joyce Jr., 83, of Red Brush Road in Mount Airy, reported that someone stole a Chevrolet Silverado and a Remington shot gun. The items taken were valued at $4,900.


• On Aug. 16, Vela Mae Hiatt, 76, of Inlaws Trail in Mount Airy, reported the theft of 70 oxycodone pills from her residence. The medication was valued at $20.


• On Aug. 16, Tomasa I. Martinez, 20, reported the larceny of $110 in cash from a pocketbook in her home.


• On Aug. 16, Verna Beatrice Clodfelter, 71, of Sycamore Drivein Mount Airy, reported the theft of a 32 inch flat-screen television from her home. The television was valued at $100.


• On Aug. 16, Tessa Needham Fulp, 47, of Stoney Ridge Road in Pinnacle, reported the theft of an X-box video game console from her home. The game system was valued at $150.


• On Aug. 17, Nicholas Ryan Simmons, 25, of Wedgewood Drive in Mount Airy, reported the theft of a swing set from his yard. The swing set was valued at $100.


• On Aug. 17, Mike Alton Johnson, 51, of Siloam Road in Siloam, reported that someone used an ATV to trespass on his property, damaging crops and irrigation equipment valued at $9,150.


• On Aug. 17, Mary Ruth Brooks, 66, of Buckhead Trail in Ararat, reported the theft of $140 in currency from her pocketbook.


• On Aug. 18, Donald Ray McBride, 45, of Georgia Avenue in Mount Airy, reported the theft of three Penn fishing reels, a tattoo gun and a bottle of cologne from his home. The items taken were valued at $440.


• On Aug. 18, Employees at the Feed Saks store in Dobson reported the theft of $40.98 in gasoline.


• On Aug. 18, Heather Janae Johnson, 25, of Cougar Trail in Lowgap, reported that someone broke into her home and stole a used 50 inch television and miscellaneous tools. The items taken were valued at $225.
