WINSTON-SALEM – Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce Tourism and Marketing Director Jessica Roberts has been named chairperson of the The Piedmont Triad Host Group. She has served on the board since 2004.
The group is made up of tourism and marketing professionals representing each of the convention and visitor bureaus in the Piedmont Triad; UNC-G Department of Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Hospitality, and Tourism; the I/73-74 and Piedmont Triad Visitor Centers; Piedmont Triad Airport Authority; and Piedmont Triad Film Commission and represents the travel and tourism industries of Surry, Alamance, Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, and Yadkin counties.
The organization’s purpose is to work cooperatively to promote tourism and support public policies that encourage the growth and development of the Piedmont Triad’s travel industry.
“I am honored to have been named chairperson. We (the Chamber) have worked together with this group on projects before,” said Roberts. “We worked with them to promote tourism in the area in projects such as hosting travel writers. There’s a lot of welcome centers in the region we are grouped with along with them and it helps us to know what information they need and to know what they have going on.”
Roberts also serves as a visiting executive for the UNC-G Department of Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Hospitality and Tourism; Board of Directors for the North Carolina Travel Industry Association and North Carolina Destination Marketing Organizations; and was recently appointed to the North Carolina Travel & Tourism Board of Directors.
Roberts holds professional memberships in the Southeast Tourism Society, North Carolina Motorcoach Association, North Carolina Travel Industry Association-Board of Directors, Destination Marketing Association of North Carolina-Assistant Secretary on the Board of Directors.
She said another recent project the host group and the chamber worked on together was a creative map which was placed in the Piedmont Triad Airport. The Mount Airy map symbol was a Mayberry squad car, area parks and wineries. Another project in the works is recording promotional videos about the area which will also be available to passengers in the airport’s concourses.
Other officers elected include vice chair Tammy O’Kelle, the director of tourism for the Randolph County Tourism Development Authority; and secretary Vicki Bloxham, office coordinator for the Randolph County Tourism Development Authority.
The Piedmont Triad Host Group will hold its next meeting on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Winston-Salem Convention & Visitors Bureau. For additional information about the Piedmont Triad Host Group, contact Jessica Roberts by phone at (336) 786-6116 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
