PILOT MOUNTAIN — The arrest of a Pinnacle man on felony sex charges involving a child was announced Friday by the Pilot Mountain Police Department.
Garvie Roe Dixon III, 40, of 277 Corner Road, is being held in the Surry County Jail under a $200,000 secured bond on two counts of first-degree sexual offense, in which a child under 13 is the alleged victim.
Pilot Mountain Police Chief Darryl Bottoms said Friday that an investigation regarding alleged child abuse had been under way since Sept. 13 in which Dixon was a person of interest. “We had received several complaints.” Dixon previously resided in Pilot Mountain.
The investigation led to a search warrant being executed in recent days at Dixon’s home in Pinnacle, which included members of the Pilot Mountain Police Department, the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, a detective from the Davie County Sheriff’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation computer crimes unit.
That unit is part of a task force that helps law enforcement agencies across the state solve sophisticated crimes involving computers.
In addition to Dixon’s computer, a cell phone was seized.
Dixon was located at another residence on Corner Road and agreed to meet with officers at the Pilot Mountain police station.
That led to the first-degree sexual offenses being filed, with Dixon arrested the same day by Mount Airy police during a traffic stop in the city.
Chief Bottoms declined Friday to specify the gender of the alleged victim or any relationship between the child and Dixon.
He said the Department of Social Services also assisted in the case.
Dixon is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Dec. 16.
