Deidre Rogers has been tapped for the president’s post of the Surry Regional Association of Realtors. According to the Mount Airy native, this will be the third time she will serve at this post for the group.

“This (being a Realtor) is a profession where it’s important to keep people involved if they do this full or part time,” said Rogers. ” It’s important to keep things moving. It’s a really good slate of officers we have this time as well.” She explained one of the regional group’s goals is to support its members who must adhere to state as well as local codes of ethics.

“It’s a higher code than just a basic real estate license,” Rogers said. “Our main duty is to provide home ownership. Statistics show those who own their own home tend to feel more secure about themselves and be more involved in their community. Ownership is a big part of this whole thing and as Realtors, that is what’s rewarding to us.”

Rogers said she has been involved with the profession since 1986. She said she is still in love with all Surry County has to offer as well as its towns.

The honor follows Rogers being named Mount Airy’s latest Citizen of the Year on Jan. 24 during the 52nd-annual meeting of the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce at Cross Creek Country Club. Rogers was born and raised in Mount Airy and graduated from North Surry High School. She later earned a degree from Surry Community College, where she was cheerleader and later was chosen as an outstanding alumnus. Rogers has maintained her strong ties with the college in a leadership capacity that presently includes chairing the SCC Board of Trustees.

She has served as board member and officer for the United Fund of Surry County, the local chapter of the American Heart Association and the Surry Arts Council.

Rogers is associated with Rogers Realty & Auction & Co. Inc. in Mount Airy and has pursued credentials through various real estate and auctioneer schools. Her business affiliations include membership in the National Auctioneer Association Auxiliary, N.C. Association of Realtors, N.C. Real Estate Commission Safety Council and Interstate Brokerage Advisory Committee and the Surry County Board of Realtors.

Donna Beeson has been named as president elect, Haley Cassell will serve as secretary, Ellen Peric will be the association’s state director, Deb Simpson will be the administrative wxecutive and Holli Nowlin and Gamble Aldridge have been named to the board of directors. The ceremony was held Dec. 5 at Carmine’s in Dobson.
