PILOT MOUNTAIN — A televised debate between the Republican congressional candidates for the district covering Surry County, scheduled to be shown live on a cable channel Friday night, will be re-aired on a regular broadcast channel tonight.

“I just got word,” 6th District GOP Chairman AJ Daoud said Friday while en route to Raleigh for the debate scheduled later in the day between Phil Berger Jr. and Mark Walker. They are involved in a runoff election to become the Republican nominee for the seat now held by Rep. Howard Coble, which will be decided Tuesday.

Daoud, a Pilot Mountain businessman whose chairmanship covers the nine-county district, said the one-hour debate will be re-broadcast by Channel 45, this area’s ABC affiliate, today at 7 p.m.

This ensures that local residents who aren’t cable subscribers still have an opportunity to watch the debate.
