PILOT MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Clio Audrey Barker Chilton, age 99, of Pilot Mountain, died Monday, August 11, 2014 at Village Care, in King. She was born February 13, 1915 in Surry County, NC to Carson and Maynetta Barker. She was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. She loved her church family very much. Mrs. Chilton spent many years in the textile industry retiring from Oakdale Hosiery Mill in 1980. At the age of 66, she earned her certificate in Nursing from Surry Community College. She is survived by one brother, Bill (Ruth) Barker, of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Dora Barker, of Winston-Salem; one daughter, June Slate, of King; two sons, Robert Herman Chilton, Jr., of Mount Airy, and Roger Dale (Ann) Chilton, of Sherrills Ford, NC; five grandchildren, Denise Cundiff, Kathy Lawson, Karen Gillespie, Matthew Dale Chilton, and Tammy Ann Burnette, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carson and Maynetta Barker, her husband, Herman Chilton, three brothers, Cecil, Porter, and Dalmar Barker, a granddaughter, Delana Chilton, and great-grandson, Maurice Townsend, a daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Chilton, and a son-in-law, Robert Slate. The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Village Care of King for the last year and a half of care. The family is also grateful to the many people in the Long Hill Community, Dr. Donald Gardner, and five-year caregiver, Betty Shelton for their compassion, kindness and support shown over the years. The family will receive friends at Howell-Nelson Funeral Service in Pilot Mountain on Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 6pm to 8pm. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at 2pm at Holly Springs Baptist Church, with interment at Skyline Memory Gardens.
