PILOT MOUNTAIN — Mr. Charlie Ray Carter, age 80, of Pilot Mountain, died Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born January 4, 1933 in Surry County, NC to the late Edward Arlo & Savannah Martin Carter. Mr. Carter was a Veteran having served in the Army during the Korean conflict and was owner and operator of Carters Roofing Company. He was of the Baptist Faith. He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Barbara & Roger Moorefield; sons & daughters-in-law, Billy & Judy Carter and Roger & Sherry “Red” Carter; grandchildren, Kim Moorefield, Chase Moorefield and Ashley Moorefield; step-grandchildren, Timothy Ring, Kelly Ring, Joshua Vipperman, Lora Vipperman and R.J. Fain; four great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters & brother-in-law, Helen & Gilbert Easter and Essie Easter and special canine companion, Abby. In addition to his parents, Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Virginia Simpson Carter; a sister, Eva Mae Carter and brothers, Bill, Howard & Clyde Carter. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Howell-Nelson Funeral Chapel of Pilot Mountain conducted by Rev. Randy Edwards & Rev. Josh Sechrist with interment to follow at Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery with full military rites to be conducted by VFW Post # 2019 of Mount Airy & Post # 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Howell-Nelson Funeral Service of Pilot Mountain. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
