WINSTON-SALEM — The Armfield Civic Center Dolphins finished the 2013 summer season with a second-place finish at the Tri-County Swimming finals at Chadwyck on Saturday. The Dolphins, coached by Jillian Kowalcik and Ashley Horn, finished as runner-up to Long Creek in the eight-team meet.


The Dolphins had several individuals who captured overall medals including Kate Margaret Parks, placing fourth overall in the 8 and under girls division. In the 9-10 girls division, Hadly Tucker finished second overall, while Olivia Marion finished fourth. For the 9-10 boys division, Ben Chesnut took first overall for the Dolphins.


Avery Tucker placed first overall in the 11-12 girls division, while Mikki Nunn took second. Julie Hicks finished third overall, while teammate Sydney Beck earned fourth place. In the 11-12 boys division, Zach Chesnut took first overall, while Nolan Gilliam finished fourth.


For the 13-14 girls division, Armfield’s Ashley Hicks captured first overall, with Jake Chesnut placing second in the 13-14 boys division. Kelsey Tunstall earned first overall in the 15-18 girls division, with Katherine Martin finishing third and Avery Tilley earning fourth place.


Armfield also earned several honors in relay events including the 9-10 girls team of Carly Bullington, Olivia Marion, Audrey Poindexter and Hadly Tucker capturing a silver medal in the 100 yard medley. The 9-10 boys team consisting of Gavin Atkins and Ben Chesnut also captured silver in the 100 yard medley relay.


The Dolphins team of Sydney Beck, Julie Hicks, Mikki Nunn and Avery Tucker took gold in both the 11-12 girls 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley events, while teammates Olivia Dunning, Destini Hudson, Alex Jessup and Gracie Pruitt took bronze in both 11-12 girls relays. Armfield also captured gold in the 11-12 boys 200 yard freestyle and 200 yard Medley relay with the team of Phillip Brantley, Zach Chesnut and Nolan Gilliam.


Ashley Hicks, Katie Horn and Anne-Louise Tunstall finished with a silver medal in the 13-14 girls 200 yard freestyle along with silver in the 200 Yard Medley Relay.


In the 15-18 Girls 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Katherine Martin, Kayla Simmons, Avery Tilley and Kelsey Tunstall earned a silver medal before capturing a gold medal in the 200 yard medley relay.


The Long Creek Stingrays captured their 11th consecutive overall championship. The Kernersville Riptyde took third place overall.
