PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry hosted and won its first non-conference golf match at Pilot Knob Park against Mount Airy, North Surry and and Surry Central.

Madison Moore and Katie Tweet were the top two Cardinal shooters. Moore shot a 44 and Tweet, a 54.

Cardinals Head Coach Chad Freeman said Madison Moore finished in first after bouncing back from a rough start. “She has got the talent to have a strong year, though she did not play her best today,” he said. “I look forward to watching her improve and have rounds in the lower 40s and 30s of which she is capable.”

Moore almost shot an Eagle on the last hole.

Freeman said, “I am especially proud of Katie Tweet. In three months, she has worked incredibly hard and it was nice to see her reap the rewards of her hard work.”

Mount Airy Coach Tommye Phillips said she was really happy with the efforts of her girls in the first match.
