Central’s volleyball team beats West Forsyth

The Surry Central girls volleyball team moved its record to 4-2 after claiming a victory over West Forsyth.
The match went to five games. West Forsyth won the first game 25-23. Central prevailed in the next two games, 25-16, 25-21.
West Forsyth then rallied for a 25-22 win in game four. Central claimed the final game and won 15-9 to end the set.
Head Coach Carrie Hutchens said, “It was a hard-fought battle, I am very proud that we overcame some of our mistakes and pulled together. We worked together and were smart about our plays.”
Hutchens said consistency was ultimately the key to the win in all areas of play. Specifically, she said the team displayed it in serving, passing and attacking.
“They are a good team and we had to rise to the occasion. We overcame and played a very good team.”
Cassidy Joyner led in kills with 14, Kelsey Taylor recorded 11, Kirsten Key 7, Tori Blevins 5, Kendra Johnson and McKenzie Daneley 4, Kaitlin Kidd 3, Brooke Lewis 1.
In blocks, Joyner and Key each recorded three. Daneley registered two, Blevins and Kidd recorded one each.
Kidd led in assists with 41 and Mason had four.
In digs, Johnson led with 20, Joyner 19, Lewis 4 and Mason 4, Taylor 4, Daneley 3, Kidd 2, and Key 1.
In serves, Johnson led with 23 and three aces. Joyner recorded 19 with one ace. Mason had 17 with one ace, Kidd recorded 16 with three aces, Brooke Lewis recorded 14, Taylor 6 with one ace; and Key had four.
“This was our A game all the way. We’ve got some tough battles ahead but take it in stride one day at a time. These girls are working really hard,” said Hutchens.
Surry Central will play East Surry today in an away match.
