DOBSON —The Surry Central girl’s tennis team swept its match 9-0 against Forbush on Monday and remain undefeated.
The victory put the Golden Eagles record at 4-0.
At first seed Marlee Wilmoth won over Alisha Baity 6-1, 6-0. At second, Sommer Chilton won over Mikayla Pendergrass 8-6, 6-3. At third, Mikayla Cox won over Makayla Matthews 6-0, 6-1. At fourth, Mallory Wilmoth won 6-0, 6-0 over Carmen Wilkes, at fifth, Cassie Hoge won 6-0, 6-1 over Brandi Sheck; and sixth, Olivia Fowler won over Maybeline Valdez-Cruz 6-1, 6-0.
Surry Central girl’s head coach Dennis Miller said, “Anytime you win 9-0 that is a big one for anybody. I am real pleased with the younger players, Hope Hinson and Madison White. Hinson is a freshman and White a sophomore.”
In doubles, Central won 8-2, 8-2, 8-3 to take the 9-0 victory.
Miller said at number two, Chilton made a good comeback in her first set.
Miller said he has a lot of depth on the team. With, four, five, six, and seven seeds being even across the board. The same is true at 8-12 seed, he said.
Miller said he expects a competitive match against West Stokes on Thursday.
