The North Surry Greyhounds hosted East Surry in tennis on Monday but lost all but the first seed battle to the Cardinals.
The Cards took the victory 8-1 in the non-conference match.
Greyhounds Head Coach Maggie McKee said, “I am always happy with the good sportsmanship of our team, they enjoy being out there and working hard, and they get better every time they play tennis on the court.”
McKee said the match prepared the Lady Greyhounds for the conference game today against Surry Central, who is undefeated.
The Greyhounds remain on the plus side in conference wins and are 2-1.
McKee said she was pleased with the first seed victory claimed by Sarah Glasco and agreed she took a good win against Tiffany King.
McKee also said Taylor Tickle performed exceptionally well against East Surry. “She never stops, she is a fighter,” said McKee. Abby Lawson also showed her fighting ability in the match, said McKee.
Cards Head Coach David Kidd said, “I knew that North Surry had improved since beginning of the season. I am happy with how the girls stepped-up and played.”
In particular, Kidd said, “I thought Haley Manuel played really well today, hitting some excellent shots. She stood out in singles and doubles. She placed the balls well, and was moving the opponents well on the baseline.”
Kidd said in doubles the Cards played exceptionally well and showed that they are learning to trust each other.
The Cards overall record is 8-3. They will play Thursday against North Stokes in a conference game.
Kidd said they are looking to win after a loss against the Vikings earlier. Cards are 3-2.
