The Lady Bears beat Winston-Salem Prep 8-1 on Senior Night.
Mount Airy has three matches left in the regular season, but all three are on the road, making this the first Senior Night for any of the local sports teams.
The Bears improved to 11-3 and 8-1 in the Northwest Conference, tied for first place with Bishop McGuinness.
The top five seeds all won their matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Davi Barbour beat Shay Michaux, Haley Thomas topped Keyla Fleming, Jai Daniels over Kyala Searcy and Bailey Jackson over Eboni McGill.
With Carley VanHoy out with a minor injury, Abby Hagwood played the fifth spot and swept Jada Boyd.
Senior Emily Lowe got a chance to step into the starting lineup in the final home match.
Lowe lost the first set 3-6, but came back with a 6-0 second set before losing in a tiebreaker.
The Bears then swept doubles 8-0 on all three courts for the 8-1 win.
Emily came out as a sophomore, having never played tennis before, said Coach Scott Kniskern. She has been a good teammate, working hard in practice and cheering for her friends.
Abby attended Central Middle School, but moved to Mount Airy for high school, said Kniskern.
After a couple of years waiting in the wings, Hagwood began to get action last year when starters would down.
She has provided quality depth the past two seasons, said Kniskern.
Barbour and Thomas have provided a lot of wins for the team over their careers.
Barbour started at the fifth spot as a freshman, then two years as the second seed before becoming the top seed this year.
Thomas was a cheerleader her freshman year, but decided to do both as a sophomore.
In their two previous seasons as doubles partners, Barbour and Thomas have won back-to-back conference doubles titles.
The two reached the state 1A semifinals as sophomores and the state final as juniors, and they would love to get a title this year, the coach said.
The Bears travel to Dobson Monday to make up a rained out date with the Lady Eagles.
