At the conclusion of the North Surry Conference 2A Western Piedmont Athletic tournament, an awards presentation followed and Greyhounds Coach Maggie McKee did the honors of presentation.

North Surry Greyhound Sarah Glasco was named Player of the Year for the 2A Western Piedmont Athletic Conference; the Golden Eagles won the conference championship and their coach, Dennis Miller, received the Coach Of The Year award.

Maggie McKee, head coach for the Greyhounds, presented the awards to an emotional group at the conclusion of the conference tournament hosted by North Surry on Wednesday. Glasco had just claimed the conference championship in singles play before getting the award.

Glasco went undefeated in singles in the conference season.

“She came out focused and played very tough,” said McKee.

Head coach of the Golden Eagles Dennis Miller said about his award, “It means that I had a great tennis team and the difference of me being Coach Of The Year and what they accomplished is very small.”

The Lady Golden Eagles went undefeated in the conference. Coach and players were emotional and exuberant. Miller said in his coaching of seven years it is the first time they have gone undefeated.

Lady Golden Eagles Kennedy Dockery and Mikayla Cox won the conference tournament doubles championship and Marlee Wilmoth squared off against Glasco after advancing to the finals.

All Golden Eagles qualified for regionals to be held in Lexington beginning on Friday.
