North Surry stayed close with Bishop McGuinness until the fourth quarter in a 63-46 loss to the Villains on Friday night in the Greyhound/Wildcat Shootout at North Surry High School.


The Greyhounds (1-1) trailed 43-40 heading into the final quarter before Bishop pulled away. Marcus Sawyers led the Greyhounds with 11 points. Mason Hawks and Nathan Fletcher both had eight points.


Spencer Wilson had a game-high 18 points for Bishop. North outscored the Villains 14-6 in the first quarter, before Bishop cut it to 29-23 at halftime. Fletcher scored midway through the fourth quarter to trim the Villains’ lead to 49-44, but Bishop closed the game on a 14-2 run.


North will play Wilkes Central in the Shootout today. The Eagles defeated West Stokes on Friday in the other boys’ contest. Bishop will play the Wildcats.
