The postseason awards keep coming in for a few of the area’s softball standouts.


East Surry’s Emily Cummings, Amber Lawson and Laken Bowman were named 1A all-state players by the N.C. Softball Coaches Association. Surry Central’s Kendra Johnson and Cassidy Joyner earned All-State honors in 2A.


Lawson, a senior catcher and two-time All-State selection, batted .507 with 29 runs scored and 32 RBIs.


Bowman, a junior pitcher/third baseman, had a 6-1 pitching record this season and was .366 at the plate with 26 runs and 18 RBIs.


Cummings, a sophomore pitcher/centerfielder, was 9-6 in the pitcher’s circle and .567 at the plate with 25 runs, 42 RBIs and a team-high four home runs for the Cardinals (17-8), who came in second in the Northwest 1A Conference.


Cummings played for bronze-medal winner Region 7 in this year’s Powerade State Games.


Joyner, a senior shortstop/pitcher for the Golden Eagles and two-time All-State pick, batted .400 with 18 runs and 18 RBIs. Joyner is also the all-time leading girls basketball scorer at Surry Central.


Johnson, a senior centerfielder, was .383 at the plate with 17 runs scored, 17 RBIs and a team-high four home runs for the Eagles (8-15) who finished tied for fourth in the Western Piedmont 2A Conference.


Senior pitcher Lindsay Brown of state 1A champion North Stokes was named 1A Pitcher of the Year in the West. Class 1A Player of the Year for the West was East Wilkes’ Ashley Wagoner. The East 1A Player of the Year was Eden Brown and the Pitcher of the Year was Malerie Leviner, both from Whiteville.


Taylor Wooten of Forbush was the 2A West Player of the Year and Savannah Davis of East Rutherford was the 2A West Pitcher of the Year. Jamielynn Johnson (North Johnston) and Nicole Wyatt (West Bladen) were the East 2A Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.


Other regional 1A All-State players were Faith Reeves (Alleghany), Kennedy Lester, Brandi Parks, Caitlyn Macemore, Olivia Bullard and Adrian Pardue (East Wilkes), and Kirstan Beaver and Cayley Shoemaker (Elkin).


Other regional 2A All-State players were Sydney Miller and Logan Wood (Forbush), Brea Lawson and Chelsea Morton (West Stokes) and Courtney Lackey, Laykn Rutledge, Taylor Lowe, Kaitlyn Pierce and Caitlyn Sheperd (West Wilkes).


The Class 3A Players of the Year were Sarah Watson of Grays Creek in the East and Destiny DeBerry of Ledford in the West. Pitchers of the Year in 3A were Lauren Higgins of South Johnston and Brittany Pickett of Sun Valley.


The Class 4A Players of the Year were Haley Cashwell of Cape Fear and Tracy Haynes (Glenn) and Haley Pace (North Davidson). Pitchers of the Year in 4A were Mary Williams of Cape Fear and Kiana Millsaps of Alexander Central.


These awards originate locally as selection committees across the state use their knowledge of area players to make selections based on information submitted by the coaches of their districts.
