The Northwestern Regional Library Quiz Bowl has been rescheduled for Feb. 2 at the Andy Griffith Playhouse. The quiz bowl is an annual academic competition between high school teams who compete in subjects including language, social studies, arts, science and current events.

Northwestern Regional Library spokeswoman Joan Sherif said Surry County Schools being closed on Friday raised transportation and safety concerns. A tentative date of Feb. 2 has been announced for the event, but if not enough participants can attend that day, another date will be chosen. The program is free and open to the public.

Quiz Bowl is sponsored by the 13 libraries of the Northwestern Regional Library system. The libraries are from Surry, Stokes, Alleghany and Yadkin counties as well as the Elkin Friends for the Library and Mount Airy Friends of the Library.

Teams competing this year include East Surry High School, North Surry High School, Surry Central High School, Surry Early College, Mount Airy High School, Elkin High School, South Stokes High School, Starmount High School, Stokes Early College and Yadkin Early College.
