PILOT MOUNTAIN — Bishop McGuinness edged East Surry by just three strokes in the Northwest Conference golf tournament Monday.

Playing at Pilot Knob Park, the participants played all 18 holes rather than the usual nine for a team meet.

The Villains shot a 297 to the Cardinals 300, just a 1 percent difference.

Tanner Owen scored 34 on both the front and back nine to finish with a 68, the second-lowest total of the tournament.

Drew Alley and Jordan Vogler tied for the Cards’ best at 73. Alley shot a 34 on the back nine, tying Owen for the second-lowest score for nine holes.

Joseph Marion shot a 75 and Dustin Holder a 79 for the team’s top four scores that figured into the scoring. Andrew Millsaps shot 83, while Jack Edwards shot 84 to fill out the team.

North Surry finished third with a 313, led by Taylor Coalson’s tournament-best 66. Coalson shot a 34 on the front nine and bested it with a 32 on the back side.

Teammate Cole Glasco shot 79, while Jed Whitaker and T.J. Ramey each shot 84. Noah Lyons made a 93, while August Cooke scored 98.

South Stokes was fourth with a 327, led by Keenan Denny with a 75.

Mount Airy, Surry Central and West Stokes finished within two strokes of each other.

The Bears took fifth with a 342, while the Eagles and Wildcats were two shots behind at 344.

The Bears’ Cody Hodges tied for third with Vogler and Alley at 73. Bailey Bouma shot 89, Jarrett Simmons 88 and Will Smith 92. Justin Simmons scored 98 and Aaron Lewis 104.

Dillon Carter led the Eagles with an 81, followed by Chase Graham and Hunter Hayes at 86 and Matt Snow 91. Ryan High shot 96, and Nate Blevins had 117.

North Stokes was last with a 373, although Ryan Wilson made the top 10 with a 76, including a 36 on the back nine.
