CANA, Va. — An 82-year-old Cana man passed away at the scene of an accident Monday morning on Bear Trail Road in Cana.

According to Virginia State Police Trooper S.M. Cochran, Garnett William Willard was driving a 1999 Ford F150 pickup truck when he ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree at about 8:45 a.m. Monday. The accident occurred about three-quarters of a mile east of Polar Lane. Cochran said the Cana Rescue Squad was the first to arrive on scene, where Garnett was found already deceased.

Cochran said Garnett’s body will be sent to a medical examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

“We’re not sure, but there is a good chance it could have been a medical condition,” Cochran said.
