Stony Knoll United Methodist, Copeland Baptist and Rockford Baptist churches got together and had a Port-a-Pit chicken plate sale last weekend and raised $2,400 for the Shepherd’s House.

Phil Goble, director of the Greater Mount Airy Ministry of Hospitality, which operates the Shepherd’s House, said the churches sold the plates for $6 or $7 a piece, so he was impressed with the amount of money they were able to raise.

“That is a lot of chicken,” said Goble.

He said the churches are joining together to have another fundraiser on the Oct. 27 at 5:30 p.m. This will be a chicken stew celebration to be held at Copeland Baptist Church.

Goble said the churches will present him a check the evening of the Oct. 27 event.
