Couples celebrate 60th wedding anniversaries

William (Ed) and Gerry Draughn of Union City, Ga., and Howard and Thelma Shelton of Mount Airy, celebrated their 60th year of marriage on July 22. Both couples were high school sweethearts and were married in a double wedding ceremony in their hometown of Mount Airy, followed by a honeymoon in Asheville.

Ed and Gerry have three children, six granddaughters, and one great-grandson, all residing in Georgia. Howard and Thelma have three children, three granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren, all residing in North Carolina. The two couples remain close friends, talk often, and visit one another yearly.
