Today is the last day to vote in an annual pumpkin decorating contest that has grown in popularity every year, according to Wallis East with Dr. James Shipley’s office.

Visitors to his office, the Mount Airy Foot & Ankle Center, at 1908 Caudle Drive, Suite 103, can vote for their favorite out of 12 different pumpkins. Voting ends Friday at 5 p.m.

This is the fourth year for the contest, East said. The pumpkins are created by employees at local physician offices.

“Every year it keeps getting more creative. Our patients really get a kick out of them,” said East.

She said participation dropped off some this year because some doctor’s offices consolidated and everyone has been busy with the Autumn Leaves Festival. Next year, there may be some contest restructuring, she said.

East said it is clear that those who participated this year put in a lot of effort into their pumpkin designs.

This year’s winning doctor’s office will win a $150 gift certificate to Ryan’s restaurant in Winston-Salem. Three staff members from the winning office will each receive a gift certificate to Infinity Day Spa in Mount Airy. The doctor and three staff members who win the Facebook contest this year will each receive a gift certificate to Lone Star and movie tickets to Creekside Cinema. The third place physician and three staffers will each receive movie tickets to Creekside Cinemas.

All who wish to vote are invited to come to Mount Airy Foot and Ankle Center during business hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Over the weekend the pumpkins will be taken to local nursing homes for patients to enjoy.
