First wrestling conference match yields a victory for Greyhounds

The North Surry Greyhounds boys wrestling team won its opening conference match Tuesday against Bishop McGuinness at home. The final score was 59-6 with the Greyhounds claiming victory over the Villains.

Head Coach Eric Jessup said that he was really proud of how the Greyhound’s team wrestled against Bishop.

Jessup said, “The decisions that we did lose were all regular decisions and were only three matches with a total of 11 points lost. I was pleased with how close we kept the matches we lost, we wrestled very well.”

At 106, Saige Wolfe (NS) won a major decision over Reid Forrester (BM). At 113, Jacob Humphries (NS) won by a pin over Jessie Russell (BM).

At 120, Austin McMillian won a major decision by a score of 11-1 over Michael Tanahey (BM). At 126, Alexander Preudhomme (BM), who finished second in the state for 1A last year, won a regular decision over Tristen Brannock (NS) by a score of 6-1.

At 132, Austin Rozier (NS) won by a pin over Connor Cossio (BM). At 138, Nicholas Trego (BM) won by a regular decision over (NS) Caleb Lowe.

At 145, (NS) Devyn Green won by a pin over (BM)Will Kamnick, and at 152, (NS); Austin McBride won by a forfeit.

At 160, (NS) Austin Collins won by a forfeit. At 170, Dalton Golden won a major decision by 11-0 over (BM) Riley Simson. At 182, Nicholas Castellano won by a 10-9 decision over (NS) Corbin Bullins.

At 195, (NS) Levi Slate won by forfeit and (NS) Cody Slate won by forfeit. At 285, Austin Akers won by forfeit.

The Greyhounds are 26-2 overall and are 1-0 in the conference. The next match will be against East Surry at home on Friday at 7 p.m.
