WINSTON-SALEM — The Winston-Salem Prep Phoenix rose over the Surry Central Golden Eagles boys varsity 77-58, but the Golden Eagles stayed with them until the very end, said Assistant Coach Jeff Edmonds.

Simeon Bracken led in scoring for the Golden Eagles with 20 points and seven rebounds.

Edmonds said, “Bracken played a great game and showed great leadership and played great defense.” The coach said Bracken also did a good job by holding Phoenix high scorer Coye Simmons to only 12 points.

Edmonds said the game came down to the wire and the Golden Eagles held them to within five points in the last four minutes of the game.

The team finished 3-13 in the conference and 8-16 overall.

The Eagles will play North Stokes at home today at 6 p.m., weather permitting, to determine who will be eighth or ninth rank between the teams as the conference gears up for next week’s beginning of the Northwest 1A/2A conference.

Other scorers for the Golden Eagles were: Zack Wilmoth 12, Luke Haymore 11, Kirk Needham five points, Brett Mosley five points, Jake Wilmoth four points, and Rocky Collins with one point.

Coach Ken Eiswald said, “I couldn’t be prouder of the way our kids battled.”
