RANDLEMAN — The North Surry volleyball team swept its way to a NCHSAA 2A west title match win Tuesday. The Greyhounds (32-0) disposed of Randleman by scores of 25-11, 25-20 and 25-16.
With the win, North Surry advances to the 2A finals in Raleigh where it will face Cedar Ridge (25-4), a 3-0 winner over East Duplin Tuesday.
“Randleman was a scrappy team that served the ball well,” North Surry coach Shane Slate said. “We had too many different players attacking and blocking at the net for them to answer tonight. We are excited about the regional championship, but we are really looking forward to the trip to Raleigh on Saturday.”
Morgan Bunker had a team-high 11 kills, followed by Sara Parker with nine and Courtney Campbell with seven. Emily Culler had six digs and Bunker added five. Kara Hodges dished out 29 assists.
Defensively, Nicole Rumplasch had 11 blocks, while Parker added four.
Two Greyhounds were perfect from the service line: Parker went 11-for-11 with an ace and Culler was 8-of-8 with an ace.
The win was much easier than Saturday’s west semifinal victory over Newton-Conover. The Greyhounds won that game, but were taken to five sets.
