DOBSON — Mr. James Wallace “J.W.” Hill, formerly of Dobson, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C. He was born in Alleghany County on Jan. 8, 1928, to the late James Fred and Vena Belle Creed Hill. Mr. Hill retired from the Surry County School System, where he worked for 25 years in maintenance and mechanics. He was a member of Dobson First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. At the age of 16, he enlisted in the Merchant Marines and later became a proud veteran of the United States Army at the end of WWII. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Ruby Brooks Hill of the home; two daughters, Patricia Hill, MD of Raleigh and Sandi Stikeleather of York, S.C.; his beloved grandchildren, Lindsay Edwards of Greenville, Jonathan Edwards of Raleigh and Joseph Hager of York; a sister, Reba Gordon of Dobson; a sister-in-law, Nellie Hill, also of Dobson; and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, a brother, Arnold Hill, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral home by the Rev. Roger Hensley with burial to follow in the Dobson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon to 2 p.m. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Dobson First Baptist Church, 245 S.
