The Lady Bears took a home victory over the North Stokes Lady Vikings Friday night, 53-25, after leading by just 11 at halftime.

After taking a 21-10 advantage at the half, the Bears began pulling away, taking a 33-19 lead at the end of the third, then exploding for a 20-point final period for the final score.

This is the second conference win in a row for the Lady Bears bringing their record to 2-1 in the conference and 6-1 overall.

“Defensively we did a good job by limiting them to 25 points and I thought that was real key for us. We forced them into 25 turnovers, Davi Barbour getting five steals and Symone Simmons got four,” said head coach Howard Mayo.

“We did a good job of adjusting our defense and giving them different looks controlling the tempo making them play faster. This is an area we are not where we want to be but better than where we were in the beginning of the season.”

The Lady Bears were 8-12 from the free throw line at 67 percent.

The team recorded 17 assists, with Davi Barbour leading with five, Mikalya Seivers had three.

Lady Bear points scored: Kathryn Beasley, 13; Davi Barbour,11; Symone Simmons, 7 ; Andi Moore, 5; Jasmine Varney, 4; Mikalya Seivers 4 ; Dana Brown, 4; Ayano Shelton, 3; Alex Atkins, 2.

The Lady Vikings top scorers were Heather Nall with 11 points and Alexa Moorefield had six.

The Bears will play next Friday against Surry Central at home.
