WALNUT COVE — The Lady Greyhounds allowed just eight points through three quarters in blowing out South Stokes 53-17.

The Lady Sauras’ Kelli Mounce and Hannah Wood came into the night averaging about 25 points between them, but North Surry slowed them down to just one field goal each through three quarters.

Coach Shane Slate gave credit to guards Maddison Hawks and Jordan Badgett for being tough on defense.

The team was solid all the way around, Slate said. The defense gave up nothing easily.

The score was 14-3 after one, 25-5 at halftime and 43-8 after three quarters.

Malaya Johnson posted 12 points, six rebounds, six assists and four blocks. The Hounds outrebounded the Sauras by seven.

Kristina Rumplasch scored a game-high 16 points. Erin March and Mary Grace Hunter added seven each. Morgan Hawks scored five, Maddison Hawks and Badgett four each.

Mounce finished with eight points and Wood three.

With exams, the Hounds don’t have a mid-week game. Next they will host North Stokes on Friday.
