The Lady Greyhounds allowed just seven points in the first half on the way to beating the Lady Sauras 46-19 Tuesday.

North Surry improved to 17-1 and a perfect 11-0 in the Northwest Conference.

South Stokes (12-6, 4-6 in the Northwest) had won six of seven since Christmas, but couldn’t score in the first half against the tall front line of the Hounds.

South’s Hannah Wood has had some good scoring games this season, so Coach Shane Slate said he wanted his defense to stay out and not let her have any open looks.

Point guard Kelli Mounce is a threat to shoot outside or drive the lane and can be a handful, Slate admitted. The Hounds held Mounce to 10 points and Wood to just two.

Center Malaya Johnson had another double-double for North, scoring 11 points with 10 rebounds, seven assists and four blocks.

Kristina Rumplasch outscored South Stokes on her own with 22 points to go with a team-high four steals.

Morgan Hawks added six points and Erin March seven.

North Surry travels to North Stokes, which was 2-16 going into Tuesday night, on Friday.
