County voters once again gave the nod to incumbent commissioner Jimmy Miller during yesterday’s general election, tapping him for a seventh term on the Board of Commissioners.

Miller, 79, received 21,078 votes in the election, a number he said indicates voters’ confidence in his performance over the years.

He said the fact that he had no challenger in this year’s election makes the voter’s confidence in him even more special.

“It’s nice to know that even though people know you don’t have opposition it’s worthwhile to vote for me,” he said Tuesday evening. “I’m grateful for each and every vote.

“I’d like to assume, and hope, that it’s because of the job I do on the Board of Commissioners,” Miller added. “I try hard, and I hope that’s why they see fit to vote for me regardless of any opposition.”

During his seventh term, Miller said he’s going to continue to focus on providing infrastructure to parts of the county.

“I want to continue working on providing water and sewer to the outlying areas of the county,” he said. “And as always, education is very important to all the commissioners, and especially to me.

“I’ve always been an advocate of doing what we can for the youth of the county.”
