ELKIN — Ms. Rachel Ellen Peters, 18, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, in Knoxville, Tenn. Rachel was born Feb. 3, 1994 in Ft. Knox, Ky., to Sean and Karen Smith Peters. Rachel was a student at Surry Community College and attended Salem Baptist Church in Dobson. Survivors include her parents, Sean and Karen Peters; her sister, Megan Peters; and her maternal grandmother, Joanne Weasner Smith. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel at 10 a.m. conducted by the Rev. Steve Kramm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.
