WALNUT COVE — The Surry Central tennis team swept South Stokes on Tuesday 9-0.
“It was a real good showing for our team,” said Surry Central Head Coach Mark Parsons. “I am really pleased with the way they played. We still have a lot of room for improvement and we will, no doubt, be challenged throughout the rest of the season.”
Parsons said he also was very pleased with the team’s focus during this, the second match of the season.
Golden Eagle Luke Haymore beat Efrem Harrell in three sets, 6-2, 3-6 and 10-8. Colby Chilton defeated Matt Chilton, 6-2, 6-0.
The Eagles’ third seeded player, Zach Wilmoth, downed Tyler Bullins, 6-1 and 6-0. Surry Central’s Alex Fowler bested Dylan Fulp in two sets, 7-5, 6-1.
Trevor Smith, playing the fifth seed for the Golden Eagles, won over Blake Embry 6-0, 6-1. Trenton Day rounded out the singles victories for Surry Central by beating Drew Hicks 6-0 in two sets.
The team of Haymore and Chilton won its doubles match 8-4, and Wilmoth and Fowler teamed up to score an 8-1 win. Smith and Day brought the total of wins for Surry Central to nine with an 8-0 win in their match.
