PILOT MOUNTAIN — The Surry Runnin’ Patriots lost to Cabarrus on Friday at the Armfield Civic Center, and it was their second loss to the Cabarrus team this season.

The final score Friday’s game was Cabarrus over the Runnin’ Patriots 54-39.

Surry Runnin’ Patriots Coach Todd Hill said, “We can whine about it or we can make ourselves better.”

The coach said a game plan to deal with the recent loss will be to watch it on film.

Hill said the Pats team will be watching re-runs of the Cabarrus loss on game film probably until they get sick of watching. He said he expects the team will watch that particular game more times than some have watched re-runs of the “Gilligan’s Island” show.

Cabarrus won in the first meeting against the Surry Runnin’ Patriots, but only by a one-point margin, 52-51.

During Friday’s game, Hill said the second loss to Cabarrus was a result of the Patriots failing to score any points at all during the third quarter. Cabarrus scored 16 points during the quarter.

Hill said the Runnin’ Patriots did not “run the floor well” against Cabarrus and gave the Lady Stallions “too many good looks at the ball.”

The coach said, “Sometimes let-downs happen.”

At the end of the first quarter, Cabarrus led 19-14 and at half-time Cabarrus was ahead by only two points with a score of 28-26. By the end of the third quarter, Cabarrus led 44-26, said Hill.

He said during the fourth quarter, “We played defense well.”The coach said Surry outscored Cabarrus by a score of 13-10 during the fourth. However, the comeback was not enough to overcome the large lead the Lady Stallions already had built.

Hill said Sydney Bedsaul was the Surry Runnin’ Patriots lead scorer with 14 points and Kaylee Paris was the second highest scorer with 10. Jessica Boyd scored five points, Camille Fishel added four, and Joye Harrison scored four. Emily Marshall scored two.
