CANA, Va. — Mr. George Washington Tate, 69 of Cana, passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at his home. Mr. Tate was born in Carroll County March 29, 1940, to Lester and Flora Ann Meredith Tate. He was a loving husband and brother who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving are his dear wife, Mona Lisa Slavey Tate of the home; two stepsons, Bret Slavey of Mount Airy and Chris Slavey of Cana; sisters and brother-in-law, Zettie and Robert Gwyn, Magdalene Haynes and Joyce Ann Tate, all of Cana; and brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Brenda Tate and Jake and Kathy Tate, all of Mount Airy, and Christine Tate of Cana. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tate was preceded in death by a brother, Clifton Tate. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Roy Quesinberry and the Rev. C.L. Crotts. Burial will follow in Rocky Ford Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
