Top-seeded Lady Hounds beat Sauras 42-23

The top-seeded Lady Greyhounds steadily increased their lead in every quarter to beat South Stokes 42-23 in the Northwest Conference Tournament.

South Stokes beat North Stokes in the play-in game Saturday for the right to face North Surry.

The Hounds outscored the Lady Sauras 13-6 in the first quarter, then outscored them by four in each of the last three quarters: 7-3, 9-5 and 13-9.

Center Malaya Johnson posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. She also had six assists and five blocks.

Kristina Rumplasch led all scorers with 14 points, Jordan Badgett nine, Erin March four, Morgan Hawks two and Abby Andrews one.

March led the defense with five steals.

South Stokes was led by Hannah Wood with nine and Kelli Mounce seven. Michala Purdue score three, and Shay Hampton and Haleigh Yontz two each.

North Surry hosts the semifinals and finals this week. The Hounds take on Surry Central Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The finals are on Friday night.
