On Wednesday, Pilot Knob Volunteer Fire Department, Pilot Rescue Squad and Surry County EMS responded when a truck ran off the roadway and hit an embankment at 763 Cook School Road, according to Surry County Emergency Services Director John Shelton. Surry County 911 Communications received the call at about 4 p.m. The driver was sent to the trauma center at Wake Forest Baptist Health. His identity was not released by press time. Trooper Bryan Jones of the North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the one-vehicle accident.
