DOBSON — A light agenda faces the Surry County Board of Commissioners when it gathers for a regularly-scheduled meeting Monday night.

The meeting is set to get under way at 6 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Meeting Room at the Surry County Government Center in Dobson.

After calling the meeting to order and approving the consent agenda, commissioners will hold an open forum to take comments from the public.

At the conclusion of open forum, the board will hear a report from Interim Housing Director/Special Projects Manager Dave Harris, who will update the board on funding and compliance conditions for a $400,000 Community Development Block Grant to rehabilitate selected owner-occupied homes in the county.

Following Harris’ presentation, the board will receive an update from Todd Tucker, president of the Surry County Economic Development Partnership. Tucker is expected to brief the board on marketing initiatives, ongoing programs and economic development projects.

County Planner Kim Bates will address the board to ask that the Mount Airy Habitat for Humanity receive a waiver on landfill tipping fees.

The board also is expected to present special recognitions to area Boy Scouts, emergency services workers, the South Westfield Ruritan Club and Marty Westmoreland during the meeting.
