Benefits and Fundraisers

• Franklin Heights United Methodist Church, 416 S. Franklin Road, Mount Airy, will have a pancake supper today from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults; $3 for children 5 to 12; and free for children younger than 5. Take-outs are available. Proceeds benefit the church budget.

• White Plains Friends Awana Club will hold a bingo at the White Plains Ruritan Building Saturday with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and games at 6:30 p.m. Prizes include 31 and Sabika. Food will be sold as well. All proceeds benefit the White Plains Friends Awana Youth and will go toward supplies, activities and mission projects.

• Friendly Tabernacle Church, 482 McBride Road in Mount Airy, will have a youth group benefit supper Saturday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Soup, sandwiches, and desserts.

• The Methodist Men of Salem United Methodist Church, 2591 Wards Gap Road, Mount Airy, will have a pancake breakfast Saturday for a cost of donations only. Take-outs are available.

• Epworth United Methodist Church, U.S. 52, Cana, Va., will have its annual spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at a cost of $6 per adult. Take-outs will be available. Proceeds benefit church projects and missions.

• Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 1266 Union Hill Road, Thurmond, will hold its 12th annual barbecue chicken and singing Saturday. Barbecue chicken plates including baked beans, cole slaw, rolls, dessert and drinks, will be sold beginning at noon for $8 per plate. The singing will begin at 6 p.m. featuring Noah’s Faith and Parables of Christ. Weather permitting, the singing will be outside. If attending, bring a chair. For more information, call 325-5841.

• The youth group of Freedom Baptist Church, 2485 Chances Creek Road, Fancy Gap, Va., will sponsor a potato bar and gospel singing featuring The Preacher’s Choir Nov. 2 at the church. The potato bar will consist of baked potato with the fixings, salad, dessert and drink from 4 to 6 p.m. at a cost of $5 for adults and $3 for children 4 to 12; children younger than 4 eat free. The gospel singing will start at 7 p.m. Proceeds benefit the church youth group’s upcoming projects.

• St. Paul Church of the Brethren, Cana, Va., across from Cana Volunteer Fire Department, will have a ham supper Nov. 3 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is $7.50 for adults and $4 for children younger than 12. Menu includes ham, green beans, apples, potato salad, rolls, dessert and drinks. Carry-outs are available. Proceeds benefit the ministries of the church.

• Salem Fork Baptist Church, Twin Oaks Road, Elkin, will have a harvest sale Nov. 3 at 8 a.m. Items sold include baked goods, canned goods and handmade goods, as well as breakfast from 7 to 8:30 a.m. and a soup lunch from noon to 1:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit missions.

• Oak Grove United Methodist Church will host a bazaar and yard sale Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. until to benefit mission work. Sausage biscuits will be sold.

• Central United Methodist Church will have its annual harvest bake sale and luncheon Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a $7 ticket, which can be purchased in advance in the church office. The luncheon menu includes hot chicken salad, cranberry apple congealed salad, vegetable pasta salad, roll and pumpkin cake and drinks. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $1 for a drawing for a signed print of “Cross Creek in Snow” by the late Pat Woltz.

• The Peoples Church, 218 Gospel Time Way, Mount Airy, will present Frightmare: The Battle for your Soul today, Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m.

• Oak Grove Baptist Church, 272 Oak Grove Church Road, Mount Airy, will have pastor appreciation day Saturday, including a hayride and chicken stew, beginning at 4 p.m. Also, the church will host a trunk or treat on Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

• King Christian Center, 995 Brown Road, King, will have its fall harvest fest Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. featuring a gospel singing and chicken stew.

• Day Spring Baptist Church on White Dirt Road, Dobson, will host a Hallelujah Party and a pastor’s appreciation event on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be prizes, games, treats, desserts and pizza for the children. • Billy M. Britt, retired superintendent of the North Carolina Yearly Meeting of Friends, will sign copies of his newly published book, “Giants in the Land: North Carolina Yearly Meeting Leaders,” at 5 p.m. Sunday at Mount Airy Friends Meeting, 109 W. Wilson St. The signing is open to the public. The book tells the stories of 17 Quakers who became leaders in, and left a lasting stamp on, the North Carolina Yearly Meeting during the 19th and 20th centuries. Several have connections to Surry County, including Lewis McFarland, a former superintendent and pastor at Westfield and White Plains Friends meetings in the 1930s and 1940s, and Sam and Miriam Levering, who were active at the Mount Airy meeting.

• Piney Grove Baptist Church, 278 Piney Grove Road, Mount Airy, will host a trunk or treat Wednesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. This will be a safe, family-friendly environment for children to explore a variety of themed vehicles, play some carnival-type games and receive lots of treats. • Pinnacle View Baptist Church, 1332 Shoals Road, Pinnacle, will have a trunk or treat Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. with a free hot dog supper for children of all ages. It will be held rain or shine, and is sponsored by the Youth Missions Groups of the church.

• Turkey Ford Baptist Church will host a trunk-or-treat Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

• Mount Airy Pentecostal Holiness Church, Hwy. 52 North near Cana, Va., will hold a H180 Fall Festival Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be outdoor singing, preaching and praising, trunk-or-treating, games, a costume contest and refreshments. • The First Baptist Church Feeding Friends Soup Kitchen provides a free hot meal to families and friends in need every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The church is between Elm and Galloway streets at 714 N. Main St. Parking is available behind First Baptist off Arch Street. The feeding friends dinner is served in the fellowship hall in the building closest to downtown, with signs available to guide visitors.

• A free “soup kitchen” is available on the last Thursday of each month in the Piney Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come as they are with no strings attached. The church is at 278 Piney Grove Road, which can be reached at 356-4196.

• Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:15 p.m. radio station 880 am will have radio ministry with Pastor Danny Poindexter from the Lighthouse Baptist Church.

• Flat Rock Presbyterian Church, N.C. 103 and Quarry Trail, has Sunday school every Sunday at 10 a.m. followed by traditional worship service at 11 a.m. Nursery is provided for both.

• Pleasant View Baptist Church, 154 Mount View Drive, Mount Airy, has Sunday school every Sunday morning at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. Bible study is held on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. The nursery is available.

• Grace Moravian Church, 1401 N. • The Fountain Food Ministry hours have changed. Families in need of clothing or food may come every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. The ministry will be open weekly on Thursdays to assist those in need of food.
