The first Annual Alzheimer’s North Carolina Mount Airy Walk was undeterred by light rain Sunday afternoon. Communications and Development Director Richard Hiatt estimated more than 200 walkers participated in the inaugural event. Hiatt expected $2,500 to be raised to benefit local families and patients suffering with the disease. He said the effort, which was held in partnership with the Mount Airy Downtown Business Association, was mainly geared toward raising awareness of services his group can provide to the community. DBA President Phil Marsh said the organization approached his group a year ago about the event and the DBA members thought it was a great idea and a great cause. Marsh said the association strives to be a part of many events to help the entire community.
