Recycling committee to meet Monday

Postal food drive delivers record total
Totals for this year’s food drive by local mail carriers were still being tallied at last report, but one thing is clear: a record amount was collected. As of Thursday afternoon, 27,332 pounds of food had been processed, according to Judy Hughes, a Mount Airy postal supervisor who helped coordinate the annual drive that culminated last weekend. “The most we’ve ever tallied in Mount Airy was 27,000,” Hughes said, adding that the food count...

Church members sew 100 dresses for mission trip in June
Along the wall of the main hall of Highland Park Baptist Church, one hundred colorful dresses were hung with care. Each dress was created from a pillowcase with a cross stitched on the front. Some dresses were created from silk pillowcases and patterned pillowcases, and for the plainer pillowcases, details were added, like ribbon and trim. Each dress is unique — there are no duplicates. Crash claims one life
One man was killed and another injured Thursday morning in a two-car collision on Judesville School Road in Dobson. One man was pronounced dead at the scene while the other was airlifted to a nearby facility. The wreck occurred at 6:19 a.m. Thursday at 904 Judesville School Road.
